Portfolio Talks

Hello everyone,

This is my first time attending the Dev Camp, and I’m also a complete beginner when it comes to coding. However, I do have an idea for a module and I’m curious to hear what you think of it.

We train nursing apprentices in clinical practice, and from time to time they encounter challenging situations that they have to deal with situations through which they grow and develop both professionally and personally. These situations are broken down and reflected on by the apprentices and then discussed with a mentor in order to deepen and clarify the learning outcomes. These developments are then documented in a personal portfolio.

The module could be called Portfolio Talks. Essentially, it would be a kind of database with various forms.

The first form focuses on describing the situation, followed by analysis and self-assessment, then defining a goal and taking a change in perspective within the analysis, and finally on transfer and looking ahead to the future.

The learners then bring this form into the conversation, where the next form is used to specify and refine the statements made and to jointly define the next steps for development. This data and especially the core insights derived from it should then be organized in the portfolio by competency areas rather than by the date of creation. This way, development over the course of the training (whether professional, communicative, methodological, etc.) becomes more visible.

What do you think about this idea? I’d be happy to receive your feedback!

Cheers,
Wolfgang

Hey Wolfgang,
thanks for being the brave one to start posting ideas here - well done.
Just a short reminder - you are more than welcome to pitch the idea during the DevCamp but remember that you will need others to join your team in order to be able to work on it and obviously you will need to convince at least 1-2 developers to help you with that ammiccante
Cheers,
Kasia

Hello Wolfgang,

I think it would be better to generalize this idea. I think it's to specific for the MoodleMoot at least we do not have much usage for this specific feature.

Cheers,
Konrad

Hi Konrad,

thank you very much vor your reply. However, I think that although the topic was formulated quite specifically, it is pretty general. It can be helpful both in school and university as well as in learning practical skills.
The core idea ist that pupils and students encounter callenging situations an have to learn how to deal with an resolve them. Regardless of the educational setting I am in, I usually have a mentor or tutor at my side. Most challenges can be assigned to a specific area of competence, whether subject-matter competence, methodological -, social- oder self-competence.
Together with this mentor or tutor, I can look at the challenge and possible solution strategies, then condense these reflections and generate a learning outcome for myself that I can apply in the future and the outcome is visualized.

I hope this makes things a bit clearer.

Cheers,
Wolfgang
