Today it is my pleasure to introduce Laurent who will be joining us as mentor during the MoodleMoot DACH DevCamp in order to assist and support our dev teams the help them to "produce working code".

Laurent David

Laurent is a long-time open-source learning technology specialist with more than 20 years of experience across Moodle, Totara, FUN MOOC / Open edX, BigBlueButton, and custom LMS platforms.

He has worked with learning platforms from almost every angle: software developer, teacher, product owner, project manager, consultant, CEO, and Moodle contributor. Earlier in his career, he also worked as a French and ICT teacher in the UK, which gives him a practical understanding of both the technical and pedagogical sides of digital learning.

Today, Laurent mainly contributes to Moodle development. He first worked with the lovely Moppies team, focused on Moodle LMS development, and now continues with the same team, renamed Mokkies, focusing on Premium solutions. After all, every good Moodle Workplace team should come with a few freshly ground beans.

Laurent enjoys turning complex learning needs into practical, usable Moodle solutions — ideally with clean code, good teamwork, and a good cup of coffee nearby.

Fun facts

  • He started his career in software engineering before becoming a teacher, then came back to development through education and open source.
  • He has worked with learning platforms from almost every angle: teacher, developer, product owner, consultant, CEO, and Moodle contributor.
  • He is based in the quiet town of Velaux, in the south of France, but he spent several years working in Birmingham in the UK.

Superpower

“I can support the teams during the DevCamp by helping them transform ideas into practical Moodle solutions. I bring experience in Moodle development, plugin architecture, testing, code quality, and product thinking, but also a teacher’s perspective on what makes learning tools useful in real life.

I am happy to help teams clarify their scope, make good technical decisions, review code, and keep moving toward working, maintainable Moodle contributions.”

Welcome Laurent to our mentors team and see you soon.

Laurent

Stay tuned & curious 🤓
