Not a particularly "sexy" or innovative idea, but we're getting increasingly asked if there is a way for Moodle to provide a mechanism to indicate to students acceptable uses of AI, and then "bracket" this with an assertion that they observed these (and how if necessary).
This would seem like an extension to the "Submission Statement" functionality found in mod_assign, but generalised to be available to all/any plugins to use.
This often looks like the teacher determining one of the following statements is applicable:
- AI & Generative AI tools may be used without limits
- AI & Generative AI tools may be used in line the following guidance: [extra guidance / guidance in task]
- AI & Generative AI tools may not be used
- Use of AI and Generative AI tools is not applicable.
And for cases 2,3 and 4, a further option for supplying reason / guidance is provided.
Upon submission the student would be re-presented with the applicable statement, a confirmation statement and space for supplementary information.
Instead of a generic "student agreed submission statement" event, the exact response, agreement and supplementary info is captured.
This sort of sub-system could be leveraged to, optionally, add more rigourous and specific submission statements to assignments (either as submission edit form for non-click-to-submit, or on submission form), an ungraded "question" type in quizzes, confirmation of submission for workshop submissions etc.
And the submission data would be consolidated and reportable coherently in a single mechanism, rather than individual per-plugin implementations.
